Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) workers protested at grand re-opening of remodeled Richmond superstore

A group of local Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) workers protested claims of favoritism and harassment not in favor of workers at the reopening of the retailer’s modified Richmond superstore Friday soon after Walmart employee strikes all over the country.

Around 50 people, out of whom few work at the Walmart at 1400 Hilltop Mall Road in Richmond, protested at that store as the store arranged its grand re-opening, according to Jorge Amaro, who is a spokesman for United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which organized the protest representing the workers. Many of those protestors left the job place around 5:30 a.m. to protest what they say were one store manager’s efforts to shut up and threaten workers who have reported suspected harassment and threats of physical violence, Amaro said.

At the close of the trading day, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) shares fell -0.93% to settle at $72.77. Intraday trading was between $72.71 – $73.57. In the past year, the stock has traded within a range of $56.26 – $77.60. The last session’s volume of 8.56 million shares was up from the average daily trading volume of 6.85 million shares.

Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ:COST) shares were down -1.04% to close at $96.12. The stock traded between $96.04 – $98.12 during the last trading session. In the last 12 months the shares have traded between $78.81 and $104.43. The last session’s volume of 2.03 million shares was a bit lower than their average daily trading volume of 2.89 million shares.

PriceSmart, Inc. (NASDAQ:PSMT) shares in the last session were down -1.50% closing at $80.21. The stock traded in a range of $80.00 – $82.15. In the last year the stock has moved within a range of $56.55 – $86.00. The last session’s volume of 114,403 shares was up from their average daily trading volume of 90,378 shares.

Another rival company Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:SHLD), traded down -0.93% moving to $63.94. Intraday trading recorded the stock price in a range between $63.19 – $65.26. In the previous 52 weeks the price has traded between $28.89 – $85.90. The last session’s volume of 472,402 shares was down from their average daily trading volume of 756,401 shares.
