Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) clears doubts about safety measures at garments factories
Mike Duke, Chief Executive Officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT), stated that he has noticed no contradiction between paying low prices to suppliers that supply products from overseas and being able to maintain safe conditions at garment factories.
He further stated in an interview with Bloomberg LP President and CEO that they did not make any purchase from an unsafe factory.
WMT’s CEO stated that that was not a price discussion and they will not make the purchases from factories that do not meet the operating standards.
In November, a fire at a Bangladesh factory that made clothes for WMT killed more than one hundred people, prompting labor- rights groups to call for the world’s largest retailer and other Western companies to take such initiative that makes garment factories safer.
