Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) clears doubts about safety measures at garments factories

Mike Duke,  Chief Executive Officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT), stated that he has noticed no contradiction  between paying low prices to suppliers that supply products from overseas and being able to maintain safe conditions at garment factories.

He further stated in an interview with Bloomberg LP President and CEO that they did not make any purchase from an unsafe factory.

WMT’s CEO stated that that was not a price discussion and they will not make the purchases from factories that do not meet the operating standards.

In November, a fire at a Bangladesh factory that made clothes for WMT killed more than one hundred people, prompting labor- rights groups to call for the world’s largest retailer and other Western companies to take such initiative that makes garment factories safer.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) total value after the recent close was $237.14 billion and the enterprise value according to yahoo data was $286.40 billion. The previous 12 month price to sales ratio was 0.51. The company showed 3.73% as a profit margin in the last twelve months and an operating margin at 5.94%. Return on equity was 23.52% for the last twelve months. Return on assets was 8.64%.

Taking a look at some competitors, total value of Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ:COST) in the stock market was $42.51 billion and the takeover value of the company was $39.22 billion. The last twelve month price to sales ratio for the company was 0.43. It had a 1.78% as profit margin in the last twelve months and an operating margin at 2.78%. Return on assets was 6.56%.

The total value of Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) after the latest trading session was $39.98 billion and their enterprise value was $57.12 billion. The prior 52 week price to sales ratio was 0.56. The company recorded a profit margin of 4.20% for the prior 12 months and had an operating margin of 5.29%. Return on equity for this stock was 6.33% while return on assets appeared at 6.16%.

The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) market capitalization after the most recent trading session was $193.20 billion and the enterprise value was $221.15 billion. Price to sales ratio for the prior 52 weeks was 2.33.
